Italian luxury shoe and leather goods maker Tod’s has collaborated with Dazed & Confused cofounder Jefferson Hack on a new capsule shoe collection called Tod’s No_Code. Billed as “forward thinking,” the new line is especially so in that it was designed for both men and women. No_Code displays its wares in a front-of-magazine feature in Dazed & Confused February 2012 that includes Christian Brylle (Ford Men) photographed by Roe Etheridge. Styled by senior menswear editor Robbie Spencer, the colorful series was shot on location in and around Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens and is a fine apéritif for the issue’s A$AP Rocky cover story.

Fashion Fund Episode 2, “Trial by Jury,” is out today on Hulu and Hulu Plus. In this episode the 2011 CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund finalists introduce themselves and their work to the Selection Committee, including Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, and Steven Kolb during an early morning presentation at the Condé Nast Building in Times Square. This episode also features Kate King (Ford) and Julia Nobis (Ford) modeling some of the finalists’s looks for the jury. [Hulu]

“The West is the best,” proclaimed Jim Morrison during the talky interlude of “The End.” Doubtful the long dead Doors frontman was musing on Western trends of denim, suede fringe, and pantalons rodéo, but nevertheless articulates just how dominant the region from the Great Plains to the Pacific is in the popular imagination. The Western trend surfaces with force from a Vogue Paris février 2012 story featuring Catherine McNeil (Ford) photographed by Claudia Knoepfel & Stefan Indlekofer. Titled “Vent d’Ouest,” western wind en anglais, the Capucine Safyurtlu-styled story gallops through Western for Spring 2012. The story opens with Catherine crouching near a campfire and wearing a python-print cotton vest, denim shirt, striped cotton pants, a leather belt with Native American buckle in metal, all Zadig & Voltaire, leather cowboy boots by Kiliwatch, and hat by Stetson. Turn the page, on the right Catherine looks off in the distance in a striped, cotton-knit cardigan by Gérard Darel, denim vest by Levi’s, and a fringed dress in lamb suede by Bel Air. Accessories adopt a distinctive mariachi accent with the string of lights that outline Catherine’s customized denim shirt by Esprit and ring her cowboy hat (Slide 7). In the end, it is suede, denim, twinkling lights, and Catherine McNeil that predominate this Western wind sweeping with gale-force through Vogue Paris.

Lara Mullen (Ford) features in the Maje Spring 2012 campaign by Craig McDean. The English model can be seen in the campaign video wearing select looks from the spring line by Judith Milgrom and leading a white horse through near the Cité Durmar in Paris’s 11th arrondissement.[Maje]

Rick Owens, though better known for his clothing design, is in fact an accomplished furniture designer whose ideas about couture run counter to the approaches taken by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy Couture. “The furniture is the couture. I don’t believe in clothes that take 5000 hours of embroidery that you wear once to a gala,” Owens explained in a video portrait by Danielle Levitt for AnOther Magazine. ”The furniture is the same idea, the same principle. It’s labor intensive, rare, it’s something that is kind of stationary and a little bit eternal. I like that as the idea for couture more.” Owens’s furniture exhibition “Magic Mountain” at the Chesa Planta Museum in St. Moritz will show through the end of February. [YouTube]

Richard Chai has been appointed creative director of Filson, the rugged outdoor clothier based in Seattle. The appointment is the result of the 2010 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, himself a fan of the company’s clothing, having approached Filson. A Filson capsule collection by Chai is slated for debut this month. [WWD]

Charlotte Gainsbourg‘s single “Anna” from her double album Stage Whispers has been remixed by Tom Furse of the Horrors. The musician and actress spoke with Nowness on the occasion. [Nowness]

Jonathan Saunders Wins Fashion Fund; Matthew Terry’s Calvins; Erjona Ala Street Style; Breading

Jonathan Saunders has won the prestigious 2012 British Fashion Council / Vogue Fashion Fund, the UK counterpart to the Council of Fashion Designers of America / Vogue Fashion Fund. The acclaimed Glaswegian-born designer will receive a £200,000 cash prize (approximately $315,000), as well as a bespoke mentoring program to further the achievement of his business goals. Matthew Terry (Ford Men), face of Calvin Klein Bold, spoke with Style.com during the Steven Klein campaign shoot at Joshua Tree National Park. Although the 20-year-old VMAN / Ford Model search winner is a personal trainer, he admitted to finding some of the gymnastic poses for the campaign to be a challenge. “I have always liked gymnastics and I give the people that do it a lot of credit because they make it look so easy, but it’s actually really hard.” [Style.com]

Erjona Ala (Ford) was tipped as the next street style star by photographer Craig Arend of Altamira. Arend attributes Erjona’s rising status to her willingness to eschew the standard issue new face uniform of black skinnies and leather jacket. “While models are often encouraged to wear skinny jeans and leather jackets, Erjona candidly stepped outside that comfort zone.” [Vogue.com]

Channing Tatum (Ford Men) features in the Details February 2012 cover story by writer Howie Kahn and photographer by Norman Jean Roy. Ambition is clearly Tatum’s strong suit and to that end over the years he has evolved from stripper to model to actor to film producer. The actor and producer known for his roles in the Step Up and G.I. Joe franchises will star in four feature films in 2012 alone, two of which he will also produce including Magic Mike directed by Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh. Tatum’s next film, 21 Jump Street (in theaters March 16), a comedic reboot of the late 1980s TV series, sees the actor play opposite comedian Jonah Hill. Such is Tatum’s meteoric rise that when he retweeted a link to his model portfolio, the subsequent spike in traffic abruptly brought FordModels.com to a halt, which is no mean feat. If Steven Soderbergh is to be taken at his word that Tatum indeed shares qualities associated with “people like George [Clooney] and Matt [Damon] and Brad [Pitt] in terms of being clear-eyed, hardworking, and masculine,” then the 31-year-old actor has a very bright career ahead of himself.

Alana Zimmer (Ford) and Sigrid Agren (Ford) can be seen in a slide show from backstage at the Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2012 runway show last week in Paris. Although Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse took exception to the collection’s inspiration, his late daughter, Gaultier’s line is clearly a celebration of the singer’s life. The Council of Fashion Designers of America will be moving out of the Garment District to a significantly larger office space (9,310-square-foot) at 65 Bleecker Street between Broadway and Lafayette following Friday’s signing of a 10-year lease. As could be expected announcement of the zip code change raised a few eyebrows, but as Anthony Lilore, a founder of the Save the Garment Center initiative, admitted, “the CFDA should be where the designers are and that could just as easily be L.A., but they are still in New York City.” [WWD]

David Beckham, the world’s richest football player, might be getting on in age, but his tattooed body is still fit enough to claim a signature bodywear campaign for H&M. A 30-second TV spot featuring Golden Balls in his David Beckham undies will play this Sunday during Super Bowl XLVI on NBC. [YouTube]

The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, that award show that lit up Twitter last night, did its thing at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center early Sunday evening. Notable red carpet steppers were Tilda Swinton wearing Lanvin with Fred Leighton jewels, Rose Byrne donning a daring Elie Saab Couture jumpsuit, and, for entirely different reasons, Jonah Hill. Air, the French duo who provided the score to recently restored and colorized silent classic Le Voyage Dans Le Lune (1902) by Georges Méliès, have released a new video to the song “Parade” from the soundtrack that comes a week Tuesday on Astralwerks.
