Lightning strikes twice in the Y-3 Spring 2012 campaign featuring Valerija Kelava (Ford) and Harry Goodwins (Ford Men) by Lloyd & Co and photographer Collier Schorr. This campaign splashed across the opening pages of many a January magazine pairing the Ford duo suited up in the spring line by Yohji Yamamoto with photocopy images of Brasília, that modernist urban planning dream turned nightmare. The Y-3 campaign has even made its way into a short film (below embedded) that draws upon film footage culled from “Brasiliários” by Sergio Bazi and Zuleica Porta set to a score extracted from William Basinski’s “Disintegration Loop 1.1.” Clarice (played by Valerija) narrates the short film titled “The Precipice,” which is set in a drab interior space stripped of all but a simple table, manual typewriter, and stool. A boy (played by Harry) paces about the room flashing with moving pictures. The meditation on space and its boundaries concludes with Clarice saying, “I’m certain this is the right place for me.” It should also be noted, that the Y-3 Spring 2012 campaign is most certainly the right place for both Valerija Kelava and Harry Goodwins.
