Get the Look: Queen of the Nile

A Cleopatra micro-trend emerged on Spring’s runway, proving that the sway of history’s sultriest sovereign on fashion has in no way decreased since 46 BC. At Lanvin, Alber Elbaz twisted bejeweled snakes around his hourglass frocks, and the models at Topshop Unique worked gilded hair and hieroglyph nails (not to mention a reverential sweatshirt). The violet-eyed beauty most associated with Cleo is having a mini-moment herself: Strong-browed girls à la Elizabeth Taylor stormed the catwalks, and Kate Winslet channeled the starlet on the cover of V.

For Halloween, you could do worse than the Egyptian queen’s unmistakable kohl-rimmed eyes, gold headpieces, raven fringe, and come-hither décolletage as part of your ensemble.  But with a few tweaks, the look of the Nile can be yours once the costume party is over, too.
